Momentum GX

There are substantial changes to parts of Genesys 2007 to support Momentum GX. These changes are listed on this page.

Currently there is no viewer and no data generation for farfield radiation and EM currents. We hope to add this functionality in the next release.

Layout

  • Layouts now support a number of EM port types such as common mode, differential and coplanar, and coupling between calibrated ports with same reference plane. The port properties dialog in layout has an association field for associated grouped ports.
  • The layout dialog Layers tab is far more extensive.
    • The tab has check marked options to show/hide pieces of the grid.
    • The Empower tab has been removed (and replaced by the richer layers grid).
    • Additional grid options include strip and Via model types and many other Momentum GX specific local settings.
  • Schematic ports now link to EM ports in the layout. You can specifically remove the linked EM port by changing the port footprint to @
  • EM Ports are now snapped to the nearest metal edge if required by Momentum GX (without visualization in layout).
  • Layouts remain backward compatible with prior versions of Genesys.

Schematic

Standard schematic ports such as Input and Output now link to EM ports in the layout. You can specifically remove the linked EM port by changing the port footprint to @

M/Filter

M/Filter now creates a layout layer stackup appropriate to EM simulation as part of normal operation. You can create a default Momentum GX analysis for the M/Filter layout and just run it and get reasonable correlated results with no additional effort. This occurs when the layout is first created (so you can modify the stackup).

Simulation Status Window

The simulation status window can be resized vertically to enable viewing the entire Momentum log. The status window scroll bar was added as well.

Simulation Log

The Simulation Log docking window (Ctrl+Shift+S) now shows the last log for each analysis (including Momentum Analyses).

Part Distributions

Starting with Genesys 2007.08 you can now establish distributions for all part parameters. These distributions will be used in Monte Carlo and Yield evaluations. Part parameters (and any variables used in a Monte Carlo or Yield evaluation) can be perturbed using these distributions

  • Uniform
  • Normal
  • Lognormal
  • Beta
  • Discrete

In addition, the random variants can be hard limited to specific ranges and the variations can be defined absolute (united values) or as percentages of the parameter value.

Parts

The part properties dialog now includes a Parameter Distributions tab for setting the distribution of each model parameter.

The parameter distributions are used as starting distributions when you add these parameters to a Yield or Monte Carlo evaluation, but they can then be changed locally within the evaluation.

This information is not backward compatible with prior Genesys versions and may cause incorrect operation of a workspace.

Copying a part to a Part Library from the schematic will copy the distributions as model overrides used when you place the part. These part libraries are still backward compatible to 2007.03.

Monte Carlo and Yield

The Variables tabs for both Monte Carlo and Yield now allow you to set the distribution for each parameter, rather than just a range. You can also copy the settings back to the part. This user interface is almost identical to the Part Properties Parameter Distributions tab interface.

Graphs

Graphs now support a histogram plot type so that histograms may be charted as bar charts.
