What's New in GENESYS 2003.10

-

GENESYS 2003.10 is now shipping. It is immediately available for purchase or download to all customers on maintenance. See this new version in action by viewing the recording of our December 2003 web seminar.

GENESYS 2003.10 offers many enhancements aimed at addressing workgroup and enterprise-level design issues, including a component library manager, XML support for component libraries, and an Agilent ADS exporter. New products offered with this release include an advanced modeling kit featuring a Verilog-A compiler and over 12 new device models, a new synthesis product targeting synthesis of splitters, couplers, baluns, and attenuators, and 8 new substrate-dependent RLC libraries. See our Comparison Table of Recent Versions for easy feature reference.

Enterprise-level solutions improve the way members of a design team work together and the way the design team, in turn, works within a larger manufacturing environment.

Many of the features released with GENESYS 2003.10 – the new schematic library manager, support of Verilog-A modeling language, scripting, and the ADS exporter – provide an infrastructure for creating and using enterprise-level component, part, engineering and manufacturing libraries. By creating and using custom, integrated libraries, the design team can share, transfer, and archive information about parts, components and layouts with one another and with other departments in the organization. Because everyone can use the same libraries, duplication and mistake-prone reentry of data is eliminated, saving time and money.

Let us explain how GENESYS 2003.10 can work on an enterprise-level for you to improve the productivity of design teams and streamline the production process from engineering through manufacturing.

New Products Now Available

Advanced Modeling Kit

The GENESYS product family now includes an advanced modeling kit that lets designers quickly develop or exchange nonlinear device models using an open compact model interface (CMI), based on the industry-standard Verilog-A modeling language. With Verilog-A, any complex custom models can be implemented in several simulators quickly and easily. The Kit also includes over 12 new Verilog-A nonlinear models, providing you with the most advanced models in the industry for DC, linear, and nonlinear simulations.

SIGNAL CONTROL Synthesis

With the new release, GENESYS also expands its already rich set of synthesis tools to encompass the design of a wide-range of signal control devices, including couplers, splitters, baluns, and attenuators. Select a topology, enter the frequency range, the number of sections, and substrate information, and SIGNAL CONTROL calculates component values, lengths, widths and other parameters required to realize the device. SIGNAL CONTROL allows you to quickly optimize and evaluate critical elements in your design.

Expanded Substrate Dependent RLC Libraries

Eight new families of resistors, inductors and capacitors have been added to the GENESYS substrate dependent libraries. The use of our RLC library dramatically improves the accuracy of component modeling for microwave and printed boards, thus reducing the time and expense associated with optimizing your designs. Since its introduction less than a year ago, the model library has expanded 33%.

Product Enhancements

Schematic Library Manager

GENESYS 2003.10 includes a new dockable dialog bar for creating custom libraries and selecting parts for placement in a schematic. Use the bar to browse through nearly all of the models and symbols available in GENESYS. You can also provide your own part data via XML files, including cost, specifications and number. Reference information on the selected part (data sheets, web pages) is only a mouse click away.

Agilent ADS Interface

For customers using both GENESYS and Agilent’s Advanced Design System (ADS), a new exporter permits easy translation of schematics generated from GENESYS synthesis products into the ADS design environment, saving time and reducing errors. With this interface, the benefits of the easy-to-use GENESYS synthesis tools are more readily available to ADS users.

Improved Graphs

Graphs can now display units such as Hz, kHz, MHz and GHz on the x-axis. Graphic text can be entered in double-byte characters (UNICODE) to accommodate languages such as Japanese. Marker font size, as well as other graphic properties, are now adjustable.

System Simulation Enhancements

SPECTRASYS improvements include faster calculation speeds and a new amplifier model that combines S-parameters and nonlinear parameters. New measurements now calculate intermods and harmonics up to 20th order. In addition, new options are available for coherency tracking and reciprocal mixing (receiver blocking).

Visual Basic Macro Scripting

With GENESYS 2003.10, you can write scripts to automate repetitive tasks. Using Visual Basic, write programs that will setup or modify schematics, run simulations, and output data. Scripting raises the level of sophistication in the application of GENESYS.

Other Improvements

GENESYS 2003.10 includes numerous additional enhancements and new features. Two examples are HTML support in Notes windows and a new harmonic balance simulation code for analytical Jacobean calculation that improves the speed and robustness of HARBEC convergence. For easy reference of features, see our Comparison Table of Recent Versions.
