Installing Floating Codewords for PC Systems (Ethernet Address) ============================================ The following instructions will guide you through the steps to install your new floating codewords. If you would like more detailed instructions, please refer to Chapter 4 of the "Installation on PC Systems" guide. The complete installation guide can be found on the web at: http://www.tm.agilent.com/tmo/hpeesof/support/supp150.html You should also review the important note about FLEXlm software at the end of these instructions. We recommend you use NT or UNIX to serve your floating licenses. Windows 95 and 98 do not provide a mechanism for automating the startup of FLEXlm on every reboot of the license server. If your new license.dat file contains more than 1 SERVER line, you have Redundant Server licenses. You must follow the procedure below on each of the SERVER machines. If your new license.dat file contains PACKAGE lines, then you are using ALPS or Packaged licenses. The formatting of the Packaged licenses is critical. Make sure the COMPONENT line is one single continous line, with no line breaks. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Save the attached license.dat file to your ADS installation directory: c:\AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\license.dat Note: The license.dat file must be on the machine that will be your license server. This doesn't necessarily have to be the machine you install and run ADS on. 2. Edit the new license.dat file using Microsoft Notepad or vi and make sure the information on the SERVER and DAEMON lines is correct. For example, given a single license server with the following information: hostname: joshua ethernet address: 0050DACA00F5 FLEXlm software: d:\AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\bin the license.dat would need to look like this (your license.dat will most likely contain more INCREMENT lines): SERVER joshua 0050DACA00F5 1700 DAEMON hpeesofd d:\AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\vendors\hpeesofd INCREMENT Design_sync hpeesofd 1.5 14-sep-2002 1 \ 7C9A45E7D21208C3D5F9 VENDOR_STRING=s=0050DACA00F5 INCREMENT Graphics_server hpeesofd 1.5 14-sep-2002 1 \ DC2AB5A70CE862FB53E8 VENDOR_STRING=s=0050DACA00F5 INCREMENT Layout hpeesofd 1.5 14-sep-2002 1 \ 1CDA858779C315F75F80 VENDOR_STRING=s=0050DACA00F5 INCREMENT Schematic hpeesofd 1.5 14-sep-2002 1 \ 8C0A7587C875072011A3 VENDOR_STRING=s=0050DACA00F5 INCREMENT System_freq hpeesofd 1.5 14-sep-2002 1 \ FC0A5507E595D72DFADA VENDOR_STRING=s=0050DACA00F5 Your license.dat file may contain PACKAGE and COMPONENT lines if you purchased ALPS or Packaged licenses. If you have more than 1 SERVER line, you need to do this on each of the SERVER machines. Make sure all copies of the license.dat file have correct hostname and path information. SERVER joshua 0050DACA00F5 1700 SERVER mojave 00500073EF30 1700 SERVER oasis 0050F732E72B 1700 DAEMON hpeesofd d:\AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\vendors\hpeesofd.exe INCREMENT Schematic hpeesofd 1.5 20-sep-2002 5 \ CC2A85FDE319DF5DE477 VENDOR_STRING=s=0050DACA00F5 . . . 3. Start FLEXlm manually using the new license.dat file to check for any errors or problems. If your license.dat file has more than 1 SERVER line, you need to start FLEXlm on all of the SERVER machines. To start FLEXlm, cd \AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\bin lmgrd -app -c ..\license.dat -l flex.log Minimize the DOS command prompt (do not close the DOS window!). Read the \AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\flex.log file and make sure there are no errors. Once all license servers have started FLEXlm, you can confirm the licenses are available as follows: cd \AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\bin lmutil lmstat -a -c ..\license.dat | more lmutil lmdiag -c ..\license.dat 4. Configure the Windows system environment for EEsof software. If your license.dat resides in your ADS installation directory, \AdvDesSys1.5\licenses, you don't need to do anything more unless another program that uses FLEXlm has set an environment variable named LM_LICENSE_FILE. If this is the case, please follow the directions below, otherwise skip to step 5. On NT systems, the LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable can be accessed by selecting Start>Settings>Control Panel, double-clicking on the System icon, and selecting the Environment tab. Find the LM_LICENSE_FILE variable and modify it to include the path to the ADS license.dat. For example: LM_LICENSE_FILE=c:\acme\license.dat,c:\AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\license.dat or LM_LICENSE_FILE=1700@acme,1700@joshua On Windows 95/98 systems, the LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable is set in autoexec.bat. Edit your autoexec.bat, make the necessary changes to LM_LICENSE_FILE and reboot your PC. 5. You should now be able to start ADS. 6. Windows NT systems should install FLEXlm as a service that starts automatically at boot time. An install utility is supplied with ADS, \AdvDesSys1.5\licenses\bin\install.exe. Please see page 4-15 in the installation manual for complete instructions on using install.exe.
