Genesys M/Filter Synthesis is a versatile, interactive tool that creates high-performance distributed-element filters to your specifications, making microwave engineers of all skill levels
more productive, and allowing system architects to assess "Make or Buy" decisions to save cost.
Genesys M/Filter Synthesis is a distributed-element microwave companion to the lumped-element Filter Synthesis module. It performs several essential functions.
- Creates distributed-element filters, in both schematic and layout, ready for use in the Genesys environment, including substrate and tunable variables (figure 4)
- Evaluate different filter types for board area, performance as fast as you can hit the "down" button on your keyboard!
- Synthesize to ideal transmission lines, or, choose a substrate and implement directly into 13 different process types
- Optimize the performance directly from the synthesis window
- Integrates well with Momentum GX (EM) and Spectrasys (system) simulators
M/Filter Synthesis is deceptively easy to use, and provides over 60 physical filter topologies, with support for user-defined topologies. With free integration of the W1508L Advanced Transmission Line Synthesis module, these filter topologies can be implemented directly in one of 13 different technologies (figure 1) using a library of 100's of commercial substrates (figure 2).
- 4 filter types (Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass, Bandstop)
- 5 filter shapes for each filter type (Butterworth, Chebyshev, Bessel, Singly Equalized, and user-defined)
- Up to 8 topologies for each filter type (stepped, stub, hairpin, combine, edge-coupled, and many more).
- Approximately 60 built-in topologies, plus support for user-defined filter types.
Integrated with RF design flows of all sizes
Furthermore, Genesys M/Filter Synthesis gives you a working schematic with pre-defined simulations, variables, layouts, and graphs. You can optimize the filter performance directly from the
M/Filter synthesis window (bottom of figure 3). Since you have the full capabilities of the Genesys Core environment, you can optimize the schematic, substitute SMT library parts for ideal
components, perform yield analysis, import and compare measured S-parameters, and export a mask to a board shop, to an enterprise EDA tool for inclusion in a larger design, or to a rapid
prototyping machine.
In most cases, the cost of Genesys Core with M/Filter Synthesis is also much less than a hardware prototyping machine and its hardware maintenance. Therefore, no rapid prototyping system
for RF engineers is really complete without access to a seat of the Genesys software.
Users of non-Agilent EDA platforms, as well as Agilent ADS, will be pleased to know that Genesys Core with M/Filter Synthesis is affordable, and can augment any design flow. In fact,
Genesys Synthesis modules have been packaged for direct integration with ADS as part of the W1421 and W1422 bundles.
Tightly integrated with other Genesys tools
Unlike standalone synthesis utilities and homebrewed tools, M/Filter is tightly integrated within Genesys, and functions directly with other Genesys tools.
For example, M/Filter Synthesis works with the Momentum GX EM simulator, if that simulator is available (top of figure 3), by preparing the substrate definition, and adding EM ports to the
layout. M/Filter Synthesis is also fully integrated with the Spectrasys system simulator (figure 5). This allows RF system architects to quickly synthesize a behavioral filter into a
physical realization, to assess the effect of imperfect filter performance, out of band impedance mismatch, and board area on system performance and cost. M/Filter Synthesis also takes
advantage of the W1508L Advanced TLine Synthesis capability (figure 1), to assist with fast, physical realizations.
