- Accurately captures layer structure
- Works with Gerber files (274x) from any board or module-level layout tool
Product Description
Gerber Union is a layout artwork translation tools designed to convert Gerber files, by performing a union operation on strokes, flashes and areas, into clean layout artwork for electromagnetic (EM) analysis by Momentum 3D-planar EM design and verification tool. Once given layers have been unionized there are no overlapping or touching boundaries. Gerber Union cleans the layout data, allows extraction of a small window and provides an ADS friendly format (EGS).

Most Gerber files include many overlapping entities - traces over flashes, multiple traces used to fill layout artwork areas. Because the redundant data does not affect the artwork, little or no effort is made by the PCB tool to clean up the Gerber output. However, the large number of vertices produced by Gerber flashes and strokes make for an unnecessary complex structure when it comes to discretizing the geometry to perform EM analysis.
Gerber Union automatically unionizes all touching or overlapping data until all artwork has clean contours.
After running the artwork file through Gerber Union, the overlaps are removed by the union operation, and only clean contours remain. This in turn provides Momentum discretization routine a much cleaner layout to work with, which results in a much faster and efficient EM analysis job.
