DesignGuide Developer Studio

The DesignGuide Developer Studio (DGDS) is a customization tool that lowers the barrier for design experts to add their expertise to ADS, and to share that knowledge with colleagues or business associates.

The DesignGuide Developer Studio is the tool that is used to make a useful set of subcircuits more accessible and more visible. Users can share a collection of designs that illustrate best design flows and simulation practices.

It helps develop and distribute IP that will speed up and standardize the design process. It also facilitates external development of add-on products.

Your customers or colleagues are more likely to use your designs when they are accessible and configured prominently in the user interface. With the DesignGuide Developer Studio, you can quickly create custom menus and palettes that are easily accessible from the DesignGuide menu. Each menu item and palette can have a pre-defined action.

DesignGuides are now built and packaged to support both PC and Unix with the same debian archive file. There is no longer a selection to build for PC or Unix.

The DesignGuide Developer Studio is free to any supported customer of ADS. It works from the ADS design environment, and does not require any additional license for operation.

A tutorial PDF file and three sample ADS projects are provided as part of the DGDS installation, and available through the Tutorial menu selection under DesignGuides on the Main Window of ADS.

Features at a Glance

DesignGuide Developer Studio lets you create an ADS DesignGuide menu interface:

Menu Editor. Create cascade menu structures for any schematic window, layout window, or the main window of ADS. Actions can be defined for each menu selection.

Actions can be defined to open a Schematic and/or Data Display, open a template, open a tab dialog, show a palette, place a subnetwork, open an HTML document or execute user-defined AEL commands.

Palette Editor. Design any number of custom palettes for use in ADS windows. Add custom bitmaps from the Bitmap Editor. Unique actions can be defined for each palette icon.

Tab Dialog Editor. Define criteria for selecting 1-of-n possible designs through a combination of tab menus and buttons.

Bitmap Editor. Create custom bitmaps that are compliant to the ADS style guide for color, font, and image. The system creates 32x32 pixel bitmaps, suitable for use in ADS.

Quick Help Editor. Create a Quick Help message window to provide directions to the user of your DesignGuide.

System Help Editor. HTML documents that use relative locations (all content is self-contained under one directory) can be added to a menu in order to provide more extensive documentation for users of your DesignGuide.

DesignGuides can be defined and installed in the $HOME directory.
